Synopsis:
The dead rise to snack on the living.
Review:
This DVD set includes both George Romero’s Classic Night of the Living
Dead (with a new music score) and the all new Night of the Living Dead
30th Anniversary Edition.
What did I think?
Well I believe that there are some things in this world that should not
be fucked with, and George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead is one of
them. That said, the 30th Anniversary Edition is the biggest piece of
shit I’ve ever put into my DVD player. The new prologue and epilogue only
serve to diminish this timeless classic. You’d think that if you were
going to take the time to do something like this, you’d also take the
time to find people who can act. And what’s with the satanic looking priest?
It says in the accompanying booklet that this is the guy responsible for
the new score, so why the fuck would they give this moron a part if he’s
not an actor? The other new footage is comprised of additional ghoul scenes
cut into the body of the film. These scenes only served as a way for the
morons who perpetrated this crime to insert their family and friends into
the movie.
The other thing that
bothered me was video transfer and the new score (on both versions). Before
now I’d only seen NOTLD on video, which looked like shit, but that added
to the character of the movie. Seeing it all cleaned up took something
away. This is also evident in the new score. The original score was darker
and more ominous; the new score just doesn’t feel right. Again, there
are some things with which you should not fuck.
Clearly the gentlemen
responsible for this atrocity were out for a quick buck and nothing else.
I feel sorry for Mr. Romero. I’m not sure if he is dead or not, but if
he is, I’m sure that seeing this blaspheme will cause him to rise from
the grave to kill those responsible.
Special features:
In all honesty, I couldn’t be bothered to watch them. I did listen to
some of the commentary track, which comprised of the idiots responsible
for this edition patting each other on the back, and pointing out which
of the new ghouls were their relatives.
