Synopsis:
Steven King tale about one man's experience in the "big house"
Review:
Shawshank is hands down a great film. I would even go as far as to say
it’s the only other film up for Best picture in 1994 that deserved to
win (the other being Pulp Fiction) over that piece of shit Forest Gump.
What great about T.S.R.
are its story and the manner in which it’s told. I’ve said before and
I’ll say it again, movies with character narration rock (take the films
of Marty S for instance, he’s used that little trick many a time).
Now I know that some
of you out there might steer away from this bad boy because it’s a prison
movie, and I won't lie to you, there are some really violent scenes in
this movie, but trust me, the payoff at the end justifies them.
Special Features :
Sorry to say there isn't a hell of a lot. Just the Trailer, some production
stills and "cast and crew" bio’s. The Trailer was pretty standard, and
the production stills were somewhat interesting, but nothing earth shattering.
As for the "cast and
crew" Bio’s? In all honesty, they pissed me off. Of the 8 names listed
you con only access information on Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, and the
Director Frank Darabont. Nuff props to the first to gentlemen, but I rather
find out more about William Sadler (he’s great in this movie) or Clancy
Brown (the bad ass screw) over this Frank Darabont dude any day. It must
also be noted that Darabont tried to duplicate his success with this picture
by making the Green Mile (another King story), and he failed miserably
if you ask me.
Video and Audio:
The Audio and visual quality on this DVD is spot on. I couldn't see any
problems with the video transfer and the Dolby 5.1 is nice and clean.
"Two things never
happened again after that. The sisters never laid a finger on Andy again.
And Bogs never walked again. They transferred him to a minimum-security
hospital upstate. To my knowledge, he lived out the rest of his days drinking
his food through a straw." - Red
