Synopsis:
Jack takes care of the Overlook hotel in the Colorado Mountains alone with
his family for the winter. Then he goes nutbar and things get all fucked
up.
Review:
This is a classic film. Kubrick really does it up. I really love how the
images of horror are all mixed tighter. Let face it, that blood pouring
out of the elevator in slow motion was fucking wild!
Jack Nicholson plays
a great mad man. Although I have to admit he sounds a little mad right
from the start of the film. I also have to give props out Scatman Cruthers,
nobody takes an axe like you brother. Shine on you crazy diamond.
The only thing I don't
like about this film is that bitch, Shelly Duvall. Who hit her in the
face with the ugly stick and then told her to be in movies? That bitch
looks like a twiggy ghost. You get her Jack!
Special Features :
There is the standard trailer on this disc, which is alright. To my knowledge,
this is the only on the disc in the collection that actually has a real
special feature. A behind the scenes documentary film by kubricks wife
on the making of the shining. It was really well made and fun to watch.
The only thing I can gripe about is that they bleeped out some swearing
in it. When did my DVD player turn into PBS?
Video:
The picture is clear and crisp. All the colours come out vividly. The
only part with dust scratches was the intro, after that it's smooth sailing.
I only wish it was in widescreen.
Audio:
The audio was Dolby digital mono. Nothing too impressive here. I really
believe a better audio mix (like 5.1) would have helped with the spooky
atmoshere.
