Synopsis:
Dark helmet trys to take all the air from druidia to use on planet spaceball.
Review:
This is a great film. Even if it’s on the down slop of ol’ Mels career.
It’s got some great characters thanks to the talents of John Candy, Rick
Moranis and Bill Pullman. They all have spot on timimg. Mel does it up
too, playing 2 parts in this film. Good ol’ Mel does it up.
Some people don’t think
this is a good film. These are the same people who don’t know a good think
if it smacked them in the face and called them Uncle. This is fucking
money. A class act all around. Sure it’ stealing everthing from other
movies, but it does it well and it doesn’t take to much from just one
film.
Now I’d seen tis movie
a long time ago and totally fell in love with it. The only bad thing was
it was on TV. The DVD has the Widescreen version on it. I’d never seen
the Widescreen version. Trust me your not missing much this film was made
for TV. It’s hard to razz out a movie that I liked but if the DVD is shit
then it’s shit. And dat’s dat. And there’s nothin’ we could do about it.
Special Features :
The disc has got some features that had a lot of peotential. They fell
a little short in my books. Course I’m an asshole and maybe my expectations
were a bit high. I still think most will agree with me, and if they don’t
fuck ‘em!
The theatrical trailer
was just that. There really isn’t much to trailers, but they are a nice
touch to the disc. The behind-the-scenes featurette was pretty cool. It
goes through how the film was made. It was really informative and it gives
a better view of the cast and crew. The only thing bad about it was it
felt a bit short.
Now for the real stinker
of the DVD. The audio commentary was fucking shit. It was the worst commentary
I’ve ever heard. Mel is a great writer and he is very funny. But as I
stated before, he hasn’t been funny since the 80’s. All his jokes sucked
cock. And he was either saying nothing at all or just describing what
was going on. It was a real task to listen to it all the way through.
The real jem on the
disc was the menu system. I know it sounds stupid, but the menus were
done up with a lot of style and carrisma.
Video:
The transfer was a top notch job. All the colours are vibrant and sharp.
Audio:
They did it up over at MGM. The 5.1 was where it’s at! From the music
to the sound effects to the voices, everything was clear as a bell.
