Synopsis:
Bond has to protect a hottie Oil heiress from a crazy Russian MOFO.

Review:
It hurts me to say it, but this movie really sucked. The finger of blame can only be pointed at one thing, the story. It was boring. It was the same old “Bad guy steals a nuke – Bond has to stop him” bullshit. Didn’t any of these guys see Austin Powers? The horse is dead, quit flogging it.

On the plus side, Brosnan does what he can with the limp script and turns in a good performance. And I gotta say Sophie Marceau isn’t hard to look at in all the tight outfits she dons in this movie. I not a fan of Denise Richards and I never have been. Bitch can’t act. Is it me, or was she supposed to look like Lora Croft when she first appears in this movie? But lets be honest, her tits are what make her a star (and the wet T-shirt nipple shot at the end doesn’t hurt). As for Bobby Carlyle, I really didn’t like his character, so I won’t blame him for it sucking. A special note to all you fans of Goldeneye 007 for the N64, yes that is the legendary RC-90 in Bobby’s hands during the Silo scene.

On a sad note this film marks the last appearance of Desmond Llewelyn (a.k.a. Q). Mr. Llewelyn died in a car crash about a month after this movie was released. In all but 2 of the 19 Bond films, he will be missed. Rest in peace.

Special Features :
Continuing the tradition of the Bond special edition movies released of late, this DVD is packed full of goodies (all made available through great a menu interface). Here’s what you get; two commentary tracks, a “making of” featurette, “The Secrets of 007” alternate video options, title track music video, theatrical trailer and a “collectable booklet” for the kids.

The first commentary track (featuring director Michael Apted) was nothing special. Mr. Apted supplies the average behind the scenes insights in a very monotonous tone. Likewise can be said of the second track featuring the production designer, the second unit director and the film composer. Maybe I’ve sat through too many of these to be impressed by what has become standard fare. It probably has more to do with the fact that I didn’t care for this movie.

“The making of” was full of behind the scenes-footage and interviews with all the major players. Well worth it’s 15 minute running time. The same can be said for “The secrets of 007” section, which delivers behind the scenes footage for all the major stunt sequences in the film.

The music video was kinda cool. I liked the concept. The trailer wasn’t that bad either (too bad the movie blew). I have to question the collect-ability of the “collectable booklet”. Are there people out there collecting these booklets? Are they buying the DVD just to get it? And are these the same people that collect TV Guides? If anybody can answer these questions please drop me a line, it’s keeping me up at night.

One last thing, the video release of this movie included a tribute featurette to Desmond Llewelyn that this DVD doesn’t have. What the fuck? I thought I bought the superior format, the one known for including such features? Am I a nigger? Are we in Inglewood? It better appear on the next film’s DVD or heads will roll.
